Road resurfacing project commences in Retreat and Tokai

14 March 2025

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate would like to advise the public of roadworks along Main Road from Station Road to Zwaan Road in Retreat and along Tokai Road from Steenberg Road to Main Road in Tokai. The work is planned to take place from Monday, 17 March 2025 until 12 May 2025 between 09:00 and 15:30 from Sunday to Friday.

‘Road users can expect some lane closures to accommodate the road resurfacing in the vicinity of Main Road in Retreat and Tokai Road in Tokai. Residents and business owners can expect some noise during this time. While we work towards keeping Cape Town moving, we ask motorists to consider using alternative routes where possible during this period and thank you for your patience while works are under way,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

The following temporary lane closures will be implemented:

  • A temporary lane closure along Tokai Road will be in place from Steenberg Road to Main Road during the day and night from 19 March to 2 May 2025.
  • A temporary lane closure along Clingendael Close in Tokai will be in place during the day from 19 March to 2 May 2025
  • A temporary lane closure will be in place to accommodate night work along Main Road, from Station Road to Zwaan Road in Retreat from 17 March to 20 March 2025

All night work will take place between 19:00 and 04:30.

The works will include:
•        Replacing kerbs and channels where the pavement has settled
•        Construction of pedestrian shelter islands in the centre of Tokai Road just east of Lismore Avenue
•        Removing the existing road surface and resurfacing the pavement
•        New road markings will be applied once the project is complete
